Just to clarify a couple of things. Zion doesn't close because of flash flooding, but the Narrows might. That is only one hike within Zion, there are many other trails you can hike that don't have any issues with flooding. We visited Utah last October 2011 towards the end of the month, ended up in Zion around the start of November...there was a really cold front hitting Utah then, so days were so cold around 30f in the mornings to 40-50f during the day.
